Content about seven women
Rotary Prahran has helped to fund the Seven Women cooking school in Kathmandu and next is supporting the establishment of a Seven Women Ambassador team to encourage sponsorship of 'Seven Scholarships' for primary school aged children in Nepal.
Rotary Prahran, Malvern & Chadstone East Malvern were proud to present a cheque for $10,557.60 to Stephanie Woollard, founder & Director of NGO Seven Women, a wonderful program helping to train disabled Nepalese women in literacy, craft production and now cookery and hospitality skills.
The four Stonnington Cluster Rotary Clubs hold a joint meeting every quarter, with each club hosting the meeting and organising an engaging guest speaker.
The Cluster clubs are looking at supporting the work of Seven Women in Nepal, so this is the ideal opportunity for members and friends to hear about the project from its inception to now from dynamic Rotarian & founder, Stephanie Woollard.
Steph Woollard 31, a returned Rotary Peace Fellow and Founder of Seven Women, when leading groups of architects to Nepal ten years ago, found seven disabled women living in a tin shed trying to make a living, but unable to sell their goods, due to a stigma. With Rotary help, she has created from the ground up, an international non-governmental organisation which economically and socially empowers women, through literacy, skills training and income generation. Steph has developed unique cultural tours in Nepal which combine sharing her work and other inspiring projects in Nepal as well as proving opportunities for participants to connect, learn, grow and contribute to the lives of others, both enriching the participant and the local Nepali communities. Steph is a Producer, Speaker and Author and has achieved great things to date such as:
# 5000 women trained and supported
# 900 women trained last year in Kathmandu and in four remote villages in Newakot district – 6 hours by bus plus 8 hours walk from the capital.
# 500 current full-time workers in Kathmandu, most home-based workers.
# Australian distribution of products through 120 wholesale shops, on-line and market stalls, based on Fair Trade principles
# 14 paid headquarters staff in Nepal and 50 Australian volunteers running marketing, admin, logistics and finance.
