Rotarian Ruth Carlos-Martinez, International Chair at the Rotary Club of Brighton Beach and Chaiman of Safe Water and Sanitation at Rotary Australia World Community Service (RAWCS) gave members an insight into the overcrowding at the Quezon Medical Centre, Lucena City, Philippines, where around 400 patients, new mothers and babies, regularly share the 250 beds.
In conjuction with the local Lucena City Rotary Club, Rotary Club of Prahran will pack and send recycled hospital beds from Donations In Kind (DIK) warehouse Footscray, to be transhipped & delivered by the Rotarians in Lucena (many of whom are young doctors only too aware of the need for this equipment in a city of around 236,000 people).
A Rotary Hall will be established for the Obstetrics & Gynaecology patients at Quezon Medical Centre, an agreement between Rotary Club of Lucena City and the Quezon Province, proudly supported by the Rotary Club of Prahran, RAWCS and DIK.
